A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos, backed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has suspended Bode George and 23 other chieftains over alleged anti-party activities.
The Lagos PDP disciplinary committee announced the suspension on Friday in a statement signed by chairman Kayode Ogunbiyi and secretary Desmond Agho. The committee said the decision followed a meeting on Tuesday where petitions alleging “anti-party activities and deliberate infractions of the party’s constitution” were reviewed.
Among those suspended are Aduke Maina, Abimbola Ogunkelu, Laja Adeoye, Tunji Shelle, Rita Orji, Kofoworola Bucknor, and Adetokunbo Pearse.
The committee accused the affected members of associating with rival political parties to undermine PDP interests. It said the suspended chieftains would no longer take part in party activities in Lagos or represent the party in any capacity. The party also warned that legal action could be taken against anyone found acting against its interests.
George, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees, has been in a long-running dispute with the Wike faction. The faction’s National Executive Committee expelled him last year.
