Kebbi State House of Assembly has a new speaker. Lawmakers elected Salihu Dangoje on Wednesday to replace Muhammad Usman, who died in April.
Dangoje, who represents Sakaba Constituency, was sworn in immediately after his nomination. Muhammad Adamu moved the motion and Lauwal Haruna seconded it. The Clerk of the House, Suleiman Shamaki, administered the oath following unanimous approval by members.
In his acceptance speech, Dangoje thanked his colleagues for the trust placed in him. He promised inclusive, purpose-driven leadership to strengthen the legislature. He also condoled the late speaker’s family, the Zuru Emirate, and Kebbi residents, and pledged an open-door policy built on unity and cooperation.
The new speaker acknowledged Governor Nasir Idris and the people of Kebbi for supporting democratic governance and development.
Usman, speaker of the 10th Assembly since June 8, 2023, passed away on April 6 in a Cairo hospital after a prolonged illness. The seat stayed vacant until Dangoje’s election.
