Ten people have been rescued with varying degrees of injuries after a residential building collapsed in the Alakija area of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State on Thursday.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the incident occurred at a storey building located along Old Ojo Road, near Alakija Bus Stop, off the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Satellite Town.
In a statement, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said emergency responders received a distress call at about 11:37 a.m. and immediately deployed personnel from the Ijegun-Egba Fire Station to the scene.

According to her, rescue teams arrived at the location by 11:49 a.m. and commenced search and rescue operations.
Adeseye disclosed that 10 occupants were successfully rescued from the rubble and handed over to medical personnel for treatment.
She added that rescue efforts were still ongoing as emergency workers continued searching for possible victims trapped beneath the debris.
Several emergency agencies, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Navy, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, and the Nigerian Red Cross Society, were involved in the operation.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said the collapse affected traffic flow along the route, causing a backlog that extended to the Oluti area.

LASTMA noted that an excavator had been deployed to support rescue operations, while its officials were on ground managing traffic and advising motorists to use alternative routes where possible.
The incident comes barely a day after a building under construction collapsed along Odili Road in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, leaving one person dead and three others injured.
Authorities are yet to determine the cause of the Lagos building collapse, while investigations are expected to commence after rescue operations are concluded
