The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects, including a former security guard, in connection with the murder of former Ogun State Television broadcaster, Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, disclosed the arrests during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Thursday.

According to the police commissioner, the breakthrough followed intensive intelligence gathering, forensic analysis, and technical tracking operations launched after the victims were found dead at Oyesiku’s residence in the Owode-Egba area of Ogun State on June 21.

Ojajuni said officers responded to a report of suspicious activity at the residence and discovered Adetayo’s body inside the security post, while Oyesiku was found dead in the living room of the main building. Her Lexus RX 330 vehicle was also missing from the premises.

Investigators immediately processed the crime scene and launched a search for the missing vehicle, which was recovered the following day through intelligence-led operations.

The police commissioner revealed that a handwritten note recovered from the scene provided crucial leads that helped detectives identify and track down the suspects.

The principal suspect, identified as 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer. Further investigations led to the arrest of Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36.

Ojajuni said Philip confessed to participating in the killings and admitted recruiting the two other suspects to carry out the crime.

According to the police, Philip claimed he planned the attack over grievances he allegedly held from the period he worked as a security guard for the deceased.

Investigators said the suspects overpowered Adetayo before using him to gain access to Oyesiku’s residence. Both victims were subsequently killed before the suspects fled with the broadcaster’s vehicle.

The stolen Lexus RX 330 was later recovered in the Onikolobo area of Ogun State.

Police also recovered several exhibits linked to the crime, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank, and a black pen.

Ojajuni stressed that investigations were still ongoing despite the confessional statements and recovery of evidence, adding that all suspects remain entitled to due process under the law.

He assured residents that the command remains committed to ensuring justice for the victims and prosecuting all individuals connected to the crime.
