Confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo have risen to 2,473, with 999 people now recorded dead, according to new government figures released Wednesday.
The DRC’s public health institute said in its latest update that 50 additional cases were identified on Monday. The new infections were reported in the eastern provinces of Ituri and North Kivu, where the outbreak has been concentrated.
Health teams continue to operate treatment centers in the region, including at Bunia General Reference Hospital, where staff in protective gear have been managing patients for weeks.
The update comes as authorities work to contain transmission in the east. Officials have urged continued surveillance, safe burial practices, and community outreach to slow the spread.
