Former member of the House of Representatives, Shina Peller, has declared his intention to contest the Oyo North Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general elections.
Peller announced his bid on Thursday in a post on X titled ‘A New Chapter of Service’. He said he will be running on the platform of the Allied Peoples’ Movement, APM.
“I am pleased to formally announce my intention to contest for Senate, representing the people of the Oyo North Senatorial District in the 2027 elections under the platform of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM),” he wrote.
The former lawmaker described the move as a renewed commitment to public service. He said he hopes to contribute his experience, dedication and capacity toward the progress of the people and communities in Oyo North.
Between 2019 and 2023, Peller represented the Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Iwajowa/Kajola Federal Constituency in the lower chamber.
He also contested for the Oyo North senate seat in 2023 under the All Progressives Congress, APC. He lost the party primary to Abdulfatai Buhari, who later won the general election.
Buhari has now said he will not seek re-election to the senate in 2027, after also vying for the APC governorship ticket in Oyo State.
With the incumbent stepping aside, the Oyo North senatorial race is expected to attract more contenders as parties begin early positioning for 2027.
