Former Gombe governor Danjuma Goje has dismissed reports that he is set to leave the All Progressives Congress, saying he remains committed to the party he helped found.

Speaking with supporters in Gombe on Saturday, Goje said there was no truth to speculation about a move ahead of the 2027 elections.

“I have not defected to any political party,” he said. “As a founding member of the APC, I remain a member of the party. With my years of service and the positions I have held, it would be inappropriate for me at this stage to decamp just to contest for the senate.”

He added that the calculation would be different if he were running for a higher office, but for now his focus is on party unity. Goje urged his supporters in Gombe and beyond to stay with APC leaders.

“This is our house. We built it, and we will continue to work for its success,” he said.

The senator reflected on nearly 45 years in politics. He noted that he has contested eight elections since the Second Republic and won them all. His resume includes service in the Gombe State House of Assembly, two terms as governor, a stint as minister, and time in the senate.

Goje said he announced retirement from active politics in 2019, but returned to run for Gombe Central in 2023 after pressure from supporters. He assured them he will keep running empowerment programs whether or not he returns to the senate.

He currently represents Gombe Central, and is listed among serving senators who will not be returning to the senate on the APC ticket in 2027.
