The Transmission Company of Nigeria has declared force majeure on the 330kV Kainji–Birnin Kebbi transmission line after tower T367 collapsed due to heavy winds and rainstorms.
TCN said the line tripped at 10:44 pm on September 7 and a reclosure attempt at 11:07 pm failed, and a patrol by linesmen from its Birnin Kebbi sub-region on Tuesday confirmed the tower was down.
The company said the incident, caused by natural weather, disrupted bulk power transmission along the corridor, but supply to Sokoto has been maintained for now through an alternative route from the Kaduna–Mando axis via the 132kV Zaria–Funtua–Gusau line into Talata Mafara and Sokoto.
TCN added that it has begun mobilizing personnel and equipment to the site to rehabilitate the tower and restore the line as quickly as possible, while apologizing to consumers for the inconvenience.
This marks the second force majeure declaration in the area this month, after TCN made a similar announcement on August 28 following the collapse of three towers on the 132kV Birnin Kebbi–Niamey line.
