Nigeria’s President Tinubu Appoints New DGs of NIA and DSS

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed as the new Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi as the new Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Ambassador Mohammed, who joined the NIA in 1995, has had a distinguished career in foreign service. He has served in various capacities, including roles in North Korea, Pakistan, Sudan, and at the State House in Abuja. His most recent position was as the head of the Nigerian mission to Libya. Ambassador Mohammed is a 1990 graduate of Bayero University, Kano.

Mr. Adeola Ajayi, the newly appointed DSS Director-General, has risen through the ranks within the agency. His experience includes serving as State Director in Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi. Until his appointment, he held the position of Assistant Director-General.

These appointments follow the resignation of the previous chiefs of the NIA and DSS. President Tinubu has expressed his confidence in the new appointees, urging them to leverage their extensive experience to address the nation’s security challenges. He emphasized the importance of enhanced collaboration with sister agencies and alignment with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

The President also extended his gratitude to the outgoing Directors-General for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavors.

The appointments were announced by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, on August 26, 2024.
