A deadly shooting near a Nyanga taxi rank has resulted in charges against 18 individuals, including 15 private security guards from KwaZulu-Natal, a taxi boss, and two taxi owners.
The accused are linked to a shootout between rival factions of the same taxi organization in Cape Town.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, leaving one person dead and seven others wounded.
Police confiscated 13 rifles and seven handguns during the arrest. Four of the security guards are currently hospitalized, while the remaining accused appeared in court on Thursday.
The matter has been postponed for a week.
Western Cape Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile revealed that the investigation is exploring potential links between the security company involved and a similar incident in Port St Johns.
The police are cooperating with their Eastern Cape counterparts to determine if the same company was involved in both incidents.
