Eyewitnesses reported that the militants moved from house to house, specifically targeting local vigilante members. During the raid, they killed Modu Bulama as he tried to escape. The attackers also set fire to several buildings and commercial establishments, causing significant losses.

Dr. Goje Muhammad, the Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), confirmed the attack, stating that their assessment showed at least 57 individuals from 14 households were directly affected.

He also reported that 12 blocks of residential rooms and eight shops were destroyed in the fire.

“The attack claimed the life of a young vigilante, leaving behind two wives and seven children,” Muhammad said. He assured the victims of government support and extended condolences to Bulama’s family.

Governor Mai Mala Buni condemned the attack, expressing sympathy for the affected families and pledging to enhance security measures in the region.

Yobe State has remained a frequent target for Boko Haram, despite ongoing military operations aimed at countering the insurgency.

The latest attack adds to the long list of violent incidents that have displaced thousands and led to the loss of countless lives.
