A Kenyan court has sentenced two men, Hussein Mohammed Abdile and Mohamed Abdi Ali, to 30 years in prison for aiding al-Shabaab militants in the 2019 attack on the Dusit hotel complex in Nairobi, which killed 21 people.
The duo was convicted in May of facilitation and conspiracy to commit an act of terrorism for helping the al-Qaeda-linked Islamist group.
According to prosecutors, Abdile and Ali assisted two attackers in obtaining forged identity cards, enabling them to escape from a refugee camp, and provided financial support.
Judge Diana Mochache emphasized the crucial role of financiers and facilitators in enabling terrorist activities, stating that without their involvement, the attack may not have occurred.
The 2019 attack involved gunmen storming the Dusit complex, triggering a 12-hour assault and siege.
The Kenyan government confirmed that all attackers were killed during the operation. Abdile and Ali have 14 days to appeal their sentences.
