The Abuja-Kaduna rail corridor has been a critical transport link in northern Nigeria, often considered safer than the highway where attacks by armed groups have become frequent. However, the service has faced disruptions in recent years, including a deadly attack on a passenger train in 2022 that underscored the security and safety risks along the route.

Authorities are expected to provide more information once rescue and recovery efforts are underway.
