Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has called on the Federal Government to urgently investigate the escalating insecurity in Nigeria, citing a recent surge in mass kidnappings and bandit attacks across the country.
In a statement shared on his verified X account on Wednesday, Kwankwaso condemned the abduction of 25 schoolgirls from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State. The attack occurred early Monday when gunmen on motorcycles stormed the school and exchanged fire with security agents.
He also highlighted the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba in Borno State, describing it as a “dark mark” in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and demanding a full investigation into possible security and intelligence failures.

Kwankwaso expressed deep concern over mass kidnappings in Zamfara State, calling them “truly heartbreaking” and urging authorities to rescue the victims swiftly. He also drew attention to recent bandit attacks in Kano State’s Shanono and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas, stressing the need for urgent federal intervention.
While praising the Kano State Government for donating vehicles to security agencies, he insisted that more robust action is needed. He said, “These areas have seen repeated violence; in one recent incident, bandits killed three villagers after crossing from Katsina State. In another raid, two nursing mothers were kidnapped from the Faruruwa community in Shanono, heightening fear among residents. These incidents are not isolated. They reveal serious setbacks in the battle against insecurity.”
Kwankwaso urged the Federal Government to reinvigorate the armed forces and empower the Nigeria Police Force to restore citizen safety and national confidence.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed that 25 students were abducted from the school in Maga on Monday, during an attack that also claimed the life of the school’s Vice Principal.
