The Nigerian Army under Operation Hadin Kai has rescued a serving councillor, Alhaji Mohammed Ali Ma’ikachi, and an Islamic cleric, Mallam Aliyu Yusuf, abducted by terrorists along the Buni Gari-Buratai road in Borno State.
The rescue followed a swift search-and-rescue operation by troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade, working with the 135 Special Forces Battalion and Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
The abductees were among seven civilians kidnapped on Tuesday while travelling along the volatile Buni Gari-Buratai axis, a route prone to insurgent attacks.
The rescued victims were found abandoned by the terrorists after troops moved towards their location near Mangari village.
Councillor Ma’ikachi attributed his freedom to divine intervention and the prompt response of the troops, expressing gratitude to the Nigerian Army. Mallam Aliyu Yusuf also commended the military for their timely and courageous intervention.
The security forces continue to search for the five remaining captives, with efforts underway to track down the fleeing terrorists and secure their release.
