The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Lamido Yuguda as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) after lawmakers overwhelmingly endorsed his nomination during plenary.

The confirmation followed the consideration of a report by the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, which cleared the nominee after a brief screening exercise.

Presenting the committee’s findings, Chairman Adetokunbo Abiru said Yuguda was eminently qualified for the position, citing his “extensive experience in financial and monetary matters” and noting that the nomination was in line with Section 8(1) of the CBN Act.

According to Abiru, the nominee demonstrated strong financial and monetary expertise during his screening earlier in the day and had no petitions against him.

The committee found him suitable and therefore urged the Senate to confirm his nomination as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The motion for confirmation was seconded by Senator Danjuma Goje. Senate President Godswill Akpabio subsequently put the matter to a voice vote, with lawmakers overwhelmingly endorsing the nomination.

In his remarks after the approval, Akpabio described Yuguda as the right fit for the job.

Earlier in the day, Yuguda’s appearance before the committee was notably brief, as lawmakers asked him to “take a bow and go,” sparing him detailed questioning.
