Newly appointed Nigeria U20 head coach Abdu Maikaba has unveiled his backroom staff as preparations begin for the Flying Eagles’ build-up to the WAFU B U20 Championship in July.

Maikaba named Ortega Deniran as first assistant coach, Abdullahi Biffo as second assistant, and Usman Mohammed as goalkeepers’ trainer, as he sets out to assemble a competitive squad for the tournament, which also serves as a qualifier for the Africa U20 Cup of Nations.

The Flying Eagles, seven-time African champions, will resume camp in Abuja on May 17 ahead of the competition.

Maikaba, who previously served as an assistant coach with the Flying Eagles and has managed several top Nigerian clubs, is expected to lead Nigeria’s renewed push for continental dominance at youth level.

In a separate development, newly appointed Nigeria U17 head coach Eboboritse Uwejamomere has also announced his technical crew as preparations intensify for the WAFU B U17 Championship in September.

Uwejamomere named Olumide Joseph Ajibolade as first assistant, Mohammed Kalli Kachala as second assistant, and Abdullahi Isa as goalkeepers’ trainer.

The tournament will serve as a qualifier for the Africa U17 Cup of Nations and a pathway toward the FIFA U17 World Cup.

The coaches have been tasked with rebuilding the Golden Eaglets with the aim of restoring Nigeria’s strong tradition at youth level and targeting a sixth U17 world title.
