African Democratic Congress presidential aspirant Mohammed Hayatu-Deen said he will not attend the announcement of the party’s presidential primary results on Tuesday, citing concerns about the integrity of the process.
In a statement posted on X, Hayatu-Deen said he was concerned by reports of widespread vote rigging from across the country, some of which he said he observed personally. He added that he would seek advice on his next steps.
The ADC held direct primaries in wards across Nigeria on Monday, May 25, 2026. The party said more than three million members were eligible to vote.
Three main aspirants contested the primary: former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor and Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and Hayatu-Deen, a former chairman of the Nigeria Economic Summit Group.
Early results from several states showed Atiku Abubakar leading in Sokoto, Yobe, Gombe, Imo, and Abia. Amaechi was reported to have won in Bayelsa.
The ADC is positioning itself as a key opposition platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
