The All Progressives Congress has named Damilola Sonayon-James as running mate to Obafemi Hamzat for Lagos governor in 2027.
Sonayon-James, 41, is currently APC’s deputy woman leader in Lagos. Party chairman Cornelius Ojelabi said she emerged after consultations that weighed competence, grassroots support, party loyalty, and leadership record. Ojelabi called the Hamzat-Sonayon-James ticket a team that can push Lagos’ development forward and urged voters to back APC for “continuity and inclusive growth”.
Sonayon-James is a governance and development professional with 15+ years in public policy, sustainability, and community work. She served as supervisor for agriculture and social services in Badagry West LCDA, where she focused on women empowerment, youth inclusion, and education programs. She’s also known for grassroots mobilisation and women leadership work across Lagos. Supporters call her “Sisi Eko of APC”.
APC said her selection reflects a push for more youth and women in governance, and for Lagos to grow as a hub for innovation and opportunity.
