Super Eagles and Fulham Defender, Calvin Bassey will not play in the second International Friendly match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Mali when they face off on the 26th of March 2024 in Marrakech, Morocco.

Bassey is among the 23 players who resumed camp for Nigeria’s international break games against Ghana and Mali but didn’t feature in the 2-1 win over Ghana and is reportedly on his way to England for assessment of an injury. The defender was instrumental in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations which was held in Ivory Coast. Bassey has been a regular for the Super Eagles since his transfer to Fulham from Ajax Amsterdam for a 20 million record fee in the 2022/2023 season.

The 24-year-old has scored one goal in 20 league appearances in the current season with his only goal coming against Manchester United in a 2-1 win at Old Trafford on the 24th of February 2024 with Alex Iwobi scoring the winner.

Calvin Bassey joins the list of Nigerian players invited who pulled out from the International friendlies due to Injuries such as Victor Osimhen, Tyrone Ebuehi, Taiwo Awoniyi and New invitee, Gabriel Osho.
