Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a Sudanese national suspected of having links to terrorist groups and a Ghanaian woman believed to be an illegal immigrant during a security operation in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The arrests were made by troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion at about 11:48 a.m. on July 19 in Lassa, Dille General Area, as part of ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the North-East.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Muhammed Goni, identified the Sudanese suspect as 32-year-old Musa Fashir, who is believed to be a foreign terrorist fighter and collaborator.
According to the military, preliminary intelligence suggests that Fashir has established links with terrorist elements, raising concerns over attempts by foreign actors to support insurgent activities in the region.
Troops also arrested 36-year-old Mary Florence, who claimed to be a Ghanaian national residing in Nigeria illegally. The military said the circumstances surrounding her presence in the area, as well as the authenticity of her claims, are being investigated.
Both suspects are currently in military custody undergoing profiling and interrogation to establish their identities, determine the extent of their activities and ascertain any possible links to terrorist organisations or transnational criminal networks.
The Army said the arrests underscore the effectiveness of Operation Hadin Kai’s intelligence-driven operations and the vigilance of troops in preventing terrorists and their collaborators from operating freely.
It added that the operation reflects the military’s commitment to disrupting terrorist support networks, preventing the infiltration of foreign fighters and enhancing security across the North-East.
Operation Hadin Kai reaffirmed its resolve to continue neutralising terrorists and dismantling their logistics, financing and support structures, while urging members of the public to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing security operations.
