Former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, has dumped the All Progressives Congress.
In a resignation letter dated August 31, 2026, Sylva said he could no longer stay in the party he helped build.
The letter was sent electronically to the APC Chairman of Ward 4 in Brass LGA, Bayelsa State. In it, the former Bayelsa governor, who described himself as a founding member of the APC, said the decision followed extensive consultations with his family, associates, colleagues and supporters.
“Having consulted widely with my family, associates, colleagues and sympathisers, I wish to formally tender my resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), with immediate effect,” he wrote.
Sylva recalled his role in building the APC from the ground up, but said the party has now drifted away from the principles it was founded on.
