A senior official from the State House, Mr. Peter Onwubuariri, has died in Kano following a prolonged illness.
Onwubuariri, 48, served as Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations at the Presidency. His wife, Mrs. Catherine Ezinna Onwubuariri, confirmed that he passed away on Monday.
He had spent about a month receiving treatment at the Kano Cancer Centre under a state government treatment arrangement. His remains were released on Tuesday from Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital and have been moved to Owerri, Imo State, for burial.
The body was received on behalf of the Presidential Media team by Mr. Oche Echeija Egwa, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations. The handover was done by Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, spokesperson to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Governor Yusuf, in a condolence message, described Onwubuariri as “a thoroughbred professional who contributed immensely to presidential reputation management over the years.” He also conveyed sympathies to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the entire Presidential Media Unit.
Before joining the State House, Onwubuariri worked with the News Agency of Nigeria. Colleagues remembered him as a dedicated and sharp journalist who was committed to his work.
