Former Ghanaian Football Player, Otto Addo has returned for a second spell as Ghana Coach on a 34-month deal with an option to extend by another two years.

The German-born midfielder was in charge of the National Team on an interim basis for much of 2022 including the 2022 World Cup in Qatar when Ghana beat South Korea 3-2 but was still eliminated in the group stage.  He resigned from the position after Ghana’s elimination from the World Cup.

The appointment was announced on Facebook by the Ghana Football Association on Friday that he returns to the role on a 34-month contract with an option to extend by another two years. The contract would cover at least the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 World Cup. The 47-year-old takes over from Chris Hughton who was sacked after the Black Stars were eliminated in the group stages of the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Coted’Ivoire. Addo, who is currently a Talent coach at German Club, Borussia Dortmund impressed the five-person panel during a rigorous interview process.

Ghana Football Association President, Simeon Okraku while speaking to AAN said “Otto was exceptional and was rated highly by the search committee, hence the decision. “There were some brilliant individuals among the coaches who applied for the job, so the committee took the pain to interview a chunk of them to pick their thoughts.” Okraku also added that “The committee was overly satisfied with Otto’s performance, for which reason he was recommended to the Executive Council for approval”.

Addo will leave his job role at Dortmund to take charge of Ghana for this month’s international window, before returning to Germany. He will then leave the Bundesliga club permanently in May to begin his new role with the Black Stars.

Addo revealed in a statement “It wasn’t easy for me to make this decision, but I’m very grateful and happy that those responsible at Borussia Dortmund are allowing me to take this step, “It’s a great privilege to be able to take on the role of head coach of my national team. “I’ve already gained a lot of experience in my role as [Ghana] interim coach and I’m looking forward to the task that lies ahead of me from the summer.”

Ghana will face Nigeria and Uganda in friendlies on the 22nd and 26th of March respectively, and the GFA added in its social media post that Dortmund will release Addo to oversee those games. Addo’s first competitive matches will be in June when they play Mali and the Central African Republic in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Ghana sits fourth in Group I, with three points in two matches.

I have been surfing online more than three hours these
days, yet I never discovered any fascinating article like yours.
It is beautiful value sufficient for me. Personally, if all website owners
and bloggers made excellent content material as you probably did,
the internet will likely be much more useful than ever before.
