The ongoing Ondo local government elections have been characterized by low voter turnout, with many polling units in Akure South, Akure North, and Ifedore LGAs recording minimal participation.
The elections, conducted by the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC), are expected to take place across the 18 LGAs of the state.
The low turnout may be attributed to the withdrawal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the election, citing concerns over the credibility and transparency of ODIEC.
Despite this, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa commended ODIEC for the seamless conduct of the poll, emphasizing its importance in enhancing grassroots development.
Deputy Governor Olayide Adelami expressed satisfaction with the turnout, urging others to come out and perform their civic duties.
He commended the security agencies and stakeholders for the peaceful conduct of the poll, highlighting the importance of voting in deepening good governance at the grassroots level.
The elections feature 13 political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP).
