Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has departed Guinea-Bissau, following a military coup that overthrew the government.
Jonathan, who led the West African Elders Forum Election Observation Mission, was in the country monitoring the presidential and legislative elections.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed Jonathan’s safe departure, stating he left on a special flight with his delegation.
The Nigerian government has condemned the coup, demanding the restoration of democratic order and the release of detained officials.
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union (AU) have also expressed concerns, calling for the restoration of constitutional order.
