The football community in Nigeria and Italy is in mourning following the death of Emmanuel King Okoye, who passed away after sustaining a serious head injury during a match on April 29, 2026.

The 25-year-old midfielder reportedly collapsed on the pitch after a heavy collision while visiting Nigeria. Medical personnel quickly intervened, providing first aid before he was rushed to hospital. Despite efforts to save him, he was later pronounced dead.

According to reports from Notiziario del Calcio and local authorities, the incident occurred after an on-field clash during the game, which was immediately halted as players and officials reacted in shock.

Okoye had remained active in football across Italy’s lower divisions in recent years, featuring for several amateur and semi-professional clubs. His career included spells with Acri, Palmese, Trebisacce, Tricarico Pozzo di Sicar, Campora, San Fili, and Promosport.

Known for his consistent involvement in grassroots football, Okoye continued to play competitively across different teams in Italy, reflecting his commitment to the sport throughout his career.

His death has left teammates, clubs, and the wider football community in shock, with tributes expected to follow in the coming days.
