Justice Josephine Efunkumbi Oyefeso of the Lagos State Judiciary has died at the age of 65.
The judiciary announced her death in an obituary released on Thursday, describing it as a painful loss. She died on Friday, May 15, 2026.
The statement said Justice Oyefeso served with “exceptional dedication, integrity and unwavering commitment to the administration of justice.” She was known for her diligence, fairness, and sense of responsibility in handling cases, and was credited with contributing to the development of the legal system in Lagos State.
The Chief Judge, judges, magistrates, and staff of the judiciary expressed grief over her passing and extended condolences to her family, colleagues, and associates. They prayed for the repose of her soul.
Her career on the bench spanned several years, during which she earned the respect of members of both the Bar and the Bench. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
