Former Ogun Central senator Iyabo Obasanjo is heading back to the Peoples Democratic Party, just weeks after quitting the All Progressives Congress.
Sources close to the daughter of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo told TheCable she’s already informed key PDP allies of her decision. “Her political focus is firmly on Ogun state and the future direction of its governance,” one source said.
Plans are reportedly being finalized for a joint rally on June 16 at the PDP secretariat in Abeokuta. Iyabo is expected to appear alongside former federal lawmaker Oladipupo Adebutu in what insiders describe as a combined show of force for senate and governorship interests.
Iyabo first got into the senate in 2007 on the PDP platform and chaired the senate health committee before losing her reelection bid in 2011. She joined the APC in February 2026 and ran for Ogun governor, but stepped down after the party backed Senator Solomon Adeola as consensus candidate for 2027.
In her resignation letter, she accused APC leaders of disrespect and breaking agreements, claiming some supporters were blocked from the venue where the consensus was sealed.
The June 16 rally could mark her formal return to PDP, the party where her political career started.
