President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has firmly stated that his administration’s tax reforms are non-negotiable and will remain in place despite opposition from certain quarters.

Speaking during a presidential media chat aired on NTA on Monday night, Tinubu addressed the controversies surrounding the tax reform bills currently before the National Assembly.

The proposed reforms have faced significant resistance, particularly from Northern leaders, prompting lawmakers to initiate consultations to address the concerns.

However, the President maintained his stance, acknowledging that while the reforms might not gain universal acceptance, they are essential for Nigeria’s economic growth and stability.

“The tax reform is here to stay. The reform is pro-poor and aims to widen the tax net, ensuring more citizens contribute to national development,” Tinubu said.

He further emphasized, “The hallmark of a good leader is the ability to do what needs to be done at the right time, regardless of opposition.”

The tax reforms are positioned as a critical tool to boost government revenue and promote economic inclusivity across the nation.
