Professor George Chima, the Chairman of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), was abducted from his Okigwe residence in Imo State on Friday.

According to a family source, Chima was hosting lecturers from Abia State University, Uturu, when four gunmen stormed the house, harassed the visitors, and took Chima away.

The kidnappers initially attempted to escape in Chima’s vehicle, but it wouldn’t start. They then hijacked a passing vehicle transporting logs of wood and fled with their captive.

The police have confirmed the incident and are working to apprehend the kidnappers. DSP Henry Okoye, the police spokesperson, assured that the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has personally led a team to Okigwe to investigate and track down the kidnappers.
