World record holder Tobi Amusan kicked off her 2025 outdoor season with a fourth-place finish at the Diamond League opener in Xiamen, China, on Saturday. In her first hurdles race since the Paris 2024 Olympics, Amusan clocked 12.74 seconds, while reigning world champion Danielle Williams took the win with 12.53 seconds.
United States of America’s Grace Stark finished second (12.58s), and South Africa’s Marione Fourie was third (12.62s). Williams clinched victory with a thrilling late surge, overtaking Stark just before the finish line.

Meanwhile, World Indoor Champion Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas ended her race early after clipping a hurdle, resulting in a DNF.
Amusan is also set to compete in the 4x100m relay for Nigeria at next month’s World Relays in Guangzhou, China. Before her hurdles season debut, Amusan won the 100m at the Velocity Fest in Kingston, Jamaica, with a season-best time of 11.28 seconds.

She has been training with Usain Bolt’s coach, Glen Mills, aiming for a strong comeback after a challenging end to last season. Amusan is a three-time Diamond League winner, with consecutive titles in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
