Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity across the country, stating that efforts to strengthen national security were a key focus of his recent engagements in the United Kingdom.

The President made this known on Sunday while hosting Kashim Shettima and 23 state governors at his Lagos residence during the Eid al-Fitr celebration.

Tinubu said insecurity remains a major obstacle to development and prosperity, stressing that his government is intensifying efforts to confront the challenge. He disclosed that discussions during his UK visit centred on securing modern equipment and international support to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.

He also revealed that he had held further talks with Emmanuel Macron on collaboration, noting that France had shown readiness to support Nigeria with security equipment and other interventions. According to him, additional engagements with other countries are ongoing.

The President urged governors to remain committed to implementing policies that directly impact citizens while supporting efforts to defeat criminal elements. He also called for measures to cushion the economic effects of global tensions, particularly the Middle East crisis, which he said could drive inflation and affect purchasing power.

Tinubu commended the Vice President for his recent visit to Borno State, assuring residents of improved protection through the deployment of modern security technologies.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, congratulated the President on his successful UK visit and the agreements reached.

He reaffirmed the governors’ commitment to addressing insecurity and disclosed that discussions on the establishment of state police were ongoing. According to him, the forum plans to present its recommendations to the National Assembly to facilitate the creation of a legal framework.

The meeting was attended by governors from across the federation, reflecting a united stance on tackling insecurity and promoting national development.
